It's the surest way to cancel each other out and make sure they won't have to face each other at Armageddon if they can't stop the end. They may not explode, but there's definitely other consequences. Not least of which is getting to know the parts of each other they hid from each other or were too afraid to admit to. What can they learn from each other's experiences? What ARE bodies? After all this time, they're finding their ideas of such were perhaps too limited by what they'd been told. What is Self and what part of it is defined by other's perception of you? and what if that Other is now with you? Can you still deny you are worthy of love when you must direct some of it back at yourself to love another who’s currently part of you. Which is all very serious but also they bicker a lot, flirt with someone in same body (awkward), have Opinions about how to take their tea, make a demonic pact, and confuse Gabriel with math.

Vietnamese espionage operative Nihil manifests nothingness into reality, giving her a covert edge. Vanishing in a blink, she can slip past clueless enemies before reappearing and silencing them forever.

Someone please help me, I can't stop. (genuinely tho this might be my last for a while.) Made her after I started playing Iso and contemplated the nature of Radiance in lore, and wanted to make a unique radiant power. Genuinely very proud of her HeroForge model, did some fun techniques

Real Name: Huỳnh Tiên Mai

Role: Duelist

The 26 year old Viet is fairly unique. Having developed the radiant power of nothingness at the First Light, she developed a nihilistic personality that led to a very go with the flow attitude. This led her to become an espionage operative, essentially a stealth detective, in adulthood. While her job goes smoothly in Alpha Earth, in Omega Earth, it leads her to finding a lot of the Valorant Legion’s work in Vietnam. Omen catches her investigating on her own, and after a brief interrogation, she’s brought into the fold with no resistance from her. Eventually, the Alpha Earth Valorant Protocol learns of her in Omega Earth, but are unable to find her counterpart before they have to face her during operations, which only serves to make the search more urgent as they face her esoteric powers. Eventually, however, during one mission where a Protocol strike team was sent to face a Legion strike team that included her, the Legion strike team was suddenly called back. The reason? The Protocol found the Alpha counterpart, and were ready to induct her into the Protocol as the agent Nihil.

Timeline

2024: Mai is born in Hồ Chí Minh City.

2039: First Light, Mai is 15.

2042: Mai goes somewhat untraceable at 18, in part a side effect of her powers and in part on purpose due to her nihilistic outlook developed after the First Light.

2048: At 24, Mai begins work as a private espionage agent. (“It pays the bills, and makes sense.”) In Omega Earth, she does the same until…

2050, Omega Earth: Mai, having traced a lot of interesting activity in her hometown of Hồ Chí Minh City during her work, comes across Valorant Legion operations at a site in Vietnam, and moves to investigate. Omen, being Omen, has a feeling as she approaches, despite her invisibility and undetectability, and catches her. The Legion brings her in to interrogate for a brief period, which she goes with placidly, resulting in the Legion assessing her powers and danger. They decide that she would work well working with them, which she also goes with, becoming the new agent Nihil.

2050, Alpha Earth: Later on, the Valorant Protocol discovers the new agent on the Legion team. While this normally wouldn’t be a concern, they are unable to find Nihil’s counterpart as the Legion begins making moves, forcing the Protocol to fight back the Legion without having the counterpart. During engagements with the Legion, the Protocol encounters Omega Nihil, and her highly dangerous powers serve to push them to look for Alpha Nihil further. During one final, fateful mission, Alpha agents suddenly see Omega Nihil called back, despite her success, and soon after, Brimstone reveals the reason why: The Protocol found their Mai, and are set to recruit her.

INSTANTLY enter a state of volatile semi-existence. In this state, Nihil is completely silent, undetectable, and can target enemy deployed abilities of any kind to remove them with RE-ACTIVATE.

(Re-activate does a short animation a la Reyna ultimate Dismiss, and the destroyed ability will glow for a second before disappearing. Any lingering deployable ability is destroyable: walls, trips, and even stuff like smokes & mollies)

Nihilistic, who could have guessed. Although, while she acts like her philosophy is “nothing matters, why bother”, she’s more along the lines of “nothing matters, why not?”

How do automatic headlight sensors know when to turn on car headlights in daytime rain?

This post has been in my drafts since April; at the time it only had a few hundred notes. I wanted to give my own two cents to the discussion, but didn't know how to express my thoughts then. But I guess a poorly-worded opinion is still better than not talking about it at all.

I'm a translator. I have an MA in translation, I work in the industry. For the two years of my studies, the topic of Machine Translation (MT) has always been there, even if we didn't always explicitly talk about it. Every conference included discussions on where MT (and AI) is going and how it'll affect the trade. While we were actively discouraged from using them in our first year, in the second year we were given assignments to use Google Translate, DeepL or even ChatGPT to translate texts and see how they fare, and correct them. And mind you, we weren't translating novels there. Economics, finance, legal documents. Those get the food on the table for a translator, and those are the stuff that MT excels at.

The use of machine learning has been a topic in this field for far longer than anywhere I think, because Machine Translation (MT) that uses neural networks has been around longer than the explosion of the AI trend (Google Translate switched to this model from statistical algorithms in 2016).

And the question is always there: is MT going to put us out of a job? Short answer: no.

The long answer is that we know that MT can and will be used, so we have to learn how to utilize it. The EU has its own MT that is trained exclusively on EU texts. The ISO standard already includes the definition of post-editing, which is the proofreading of machine-translated texts. Translation agencies and translators alike already use it. I use it. And you use it too, I'm sure of that. It's here and it ain't going anywhere.

But MT is nowhere near perfect. In the assignments where we had to put texts in Google Translate and DeepL and see their output, the results on first glance looked pretty good, and for example, in a comparatively small language like Hungarian, it often put out very well formed sentences. But there's the catch, the texts are only good on first glance. There are a lot of problems where the MT used incorrect terminology, puts out weirdly formed sentences or even adds or removes words (what we know as hallucinations in Large Language Models). Because MT only creates output based on parallel texts, texts that already had a translated version to learn from. It doesn't do research. It doesn't know who the text is translated for. It doesn't know what the topic or the broader context of the text is. That's what the human translator is trained for! The translator does the research and even if they aren't well-versed in the topic they translate, they know how to check if a term is correct in the given context, they know where to look and who to ask.

There's also the problem that there's so much machine translated text out on the internet now that MTs are now pulling data from those, no matter how bad the machine generated texts are. It practically starts inbreeding if people won't go out their way to "clean" all that text of problems.

At their current state, an MT may be sufficient for translating a webpage or a comment or an e-mail for you, but it sure as hell won't give you a legally good translation of your contract on rent (on that note, please do not use free translation services to translate documents with sensitive or personal information in them! You don't know what'll happen with that data!)

And I think this is the fate of machine illustrations as well. You can make an extremely good generative model to make picture-perfect images, but you cannot circumvent human professionalism from the process, not if you want a quality product.

The 28 year old Viet has had an interesting life. Despite being born to the head doctor of a hospital, and awakening hellish powers, she lived a fine early life. However, as a young adult, when Kingdom businessmen threatened her mother’s workplace, she used her radiant powers in self-defense. While she succeeded in driving KNG away from the hospital, they then threatened her whole community, driving up prices and buying land to the point it was difficult to live in. She eventually had enough, beginning a long campaign of attacking Kingdom buildings, destroying everything inside. Successful for a few years, the resulting notoriety drew the attention of the Scions of Hourglass, who tried to kill her. She survived, protected her family, and then researched into the Scions, attracting the attention of a new group: the Valorant Protocol. They set off to question her, but she mistook them for assailants, attacking them. Once that was cleared, she agreed with their mission and joined them as the agent Hellspawn.

Timeline

2022: Huệ is born in Ðà Nẵng. Her mom is the head doctor of a hospital.

2039: First Light, Huệ is 17. She awakens Radiance, gaining the powers of the fiery underworld. Despite her demonic abilities, her close ones do not shun her.

2043: Kingdom begins attempting to purchase the hospital Huệ’s mom works at. During one of Huệ’s visits, a Kingdom businessman becomes aggressive towards the staff, including Huệ’s mom. He threatens them, resulting in Huệ using her powers in self-defense. Kingdom backs down, but villainizes her and her community, buying nearby land and property and aggressively raising prices, generally making the area more difficult to live in. Huệ is forced to accept this, but gains a vendetta against Kingdom which only increases with time.

2047: Eventually, Huệ decides enough is enough. She breaks into the largest nearby Kingdom office, destroys everything she can using her powers, and makes a break for it. Fortunately, despite the uniqueness of her power, Kingdom is unable to pin it on her. She continues this streak of Kingdom break-ins and sabotages for a few years, gaining notoriety as “Kingdom’s Devil”.

2050: By this point, Kingdom’s presence in Huệ’s community has drastically reduced. She prides herself on a job well done for a few months. Unbeknownst to her, however, the obvious radiant nature of her attacks, and her notoriety, resulted in the Scions of Hourglass tracking her down and making an attempt on her life. She fends the first attack off, before ensuring her family is safe and then researching as much as she can into the Scions. This gets picked up by Cypher, who tracks her down and realizes she’s Kingdom’s Devil. The Valorant Protocol move to question her, but she attacks them, believing them to be either Kingdom agents or Scions. After that issue is cleared, she happily joins them once she learns their goals and current missions, becoming the agent Hellspawn.

Abilities

C - Portent of Doom (2 charges)

EQUIP an ominous pulse. FIRE to send it out, Dooming the first enemy it hits. Doomed enemies take increased damage (1.5x) and are slowed. The pulse can pass through solid objects. (works like Iso bolt)

Q - Fatal Call (1 charge)

EQUIP a sphere of wrath. FIRE to throw it out. ALT-FIRE to lob. The sphere sticks to the floor and explodes. Non-Doomed players are damaged and Doomed. Doomed players are heavily damaged, concussed, and cleansed of Doom.

E (Signature) - Hellish Charge (1 charge)

INSTANTLY charge forward a set distance. FIRE during the charge to end it early. Once the charge ends, Hellspawn unleashes a burst of hellfire. During the charge, you take decreased damage. 

X (Ultimate) - Damnation (7 points)

EQUIP the power of the underworld. FIRE to unleash a column of power through the battlefield. The first enemy it hits bursts into Hellfire, becoming Doomed, receiving halved healing, and taking constant damage until they die or get a kill.

(The "column" is like Iso's ult, going through walls and hitting the enemy that was closest to you when you activated the ult. AOE-wise, it's like a longer, wider Breach stun)

She's also quite violent, enjoying it quite thoroughly. Hell powers.

Funnily enough, she’s an atheist.

She's the best cook out of all my OCs. Actually wanted to be a chef before the whole Kingdom's Devil thing. Once Valorant is "over", she'll probably go for a job at a restaurant.
